“But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Pet. 3:13).
Echoes of Eternity
Like a child in the womb, we can’t yet fully comprehend the greater world that awaits us.
Sermon Purpose & Prayer:
A Clearer Vision: Lord, make eternity real to us, bringing comfort & longing.
Just Imagine
Life After Death & Life After We Rise
- After We Die: Phil. 1:21-23; Luke 16:22; 23:43; 2 Cor. 5:1-8
- After We Rise: Phil. 3:11,20-21; 1 Cor. 15:51-53; 1 Thes. 5:13-17
- In either case, the best part is the same…
The Best Part: Being With Him!
John 14:1-4; Ps. 63:1-8; Rev. 2:17; 19:7; 21:3-4
Sneak Peak: Take a virtual tour of the New Heavens and New Earth. When you look at Revelation 21-22, what strikes you most about what John saw?
No -> Yes: Sometimes the best way to describe someplace is to describe how it’s different from what you’re used to. Like film negatives print into photos, each “no” in Revelation 21-22 reveals a “yes” about our eternal reality.
The Bible says that the New Heavens and New Earth will have:
- NO Sea (Rev. 21:1). Order, consistency, and security will replace this world’s chaos & danger.
- NO Temple (Rev. 21:22). His intimate presence everywhere you go.
- NO Death (Rev. 21:4). Health, vitality & longevity are permanent certainties.
- NO Night (Rev. 21:25). The light of the Lamb & Father shine everywhere, leaving no lurking evils or shadows of uncertainty.
- NO Pain or Sorrow (Rev. 21:4). Happiness, celebration & togetherness!
Maranatha! “Our Lord, Come!” (1 Cor. 16:22)
We look forward with confident expectation to the glories to come, praying for our Lord Jesus Christ to return soon! And if we die before his return, we’ll be with the Lord as we happily await that last day!
